It’s mid-December and we’re well into the last-minute madness of preparing to take a well-deserved Christmas break. As we start to shift our focus from wrapping up client projects to wrapping Santa presents, we want to take a moment to wrap up the year that was as well.
There’s no doubt 2023 has been a big year for marketing and agencies, and Media Mortar was no different. From a marketing-landscape perspective, we started the year wondering if AI was going to take our jobs or just make our jobs easier. Turns out, it was the latter, and after many Chat-GPT sessions, we have well and truly embraced AI and how it can help improve marketing delivery. We even run training workshops on embracing AI (sneaky plug – email us if you’re keen to book a session for your team!). Can AI replace our copywriting and strategic capabilities – absolutely not – but it sure can help create content efficiencies, allowing us more time for creative and strategic thinking. Phew!
Along with AI, lo-fi videos continued to take off, with TikTok becoming the number one search engine for more than half of Gen Z, and low production (but high entertainment) videos gaining momentum on all channels. To help our clients embrace these video trends – whether on TikTok, Instagram or YouTube shorts – we launched our lo-fi production service and haven’t stopped filming since! We’ve made videos for The Royal Flying Doctors, Ariat, Brisbane Airport Corporation, Maranoa Regional Council and more – check them out in our highlights below.
This year hasn’t just been about marketing changes, we’ve also embraced change and growth internally. Hannah headed on maternity leave at the start of the year and Liz took over the reigns of the agency. We also welcomed copywriting gun Isobel to the team, along with a great group of interns and casual team members. By August, both Hannah and Bel had returned to work, and Liz took on a new role working in Strategy and Growth. Through all this, the content crew of Elise, Luke, Isobel, Liam, and Sammy continued to deliver exceptional content for clients and received a few promotions along the way!
We could go on for ages reflecting on the year that was, but rather than continue writing what is quickly becoming an essay, let’s instead use a medium that we know is more engaging – social media. We’ve been counting down the top 23 of 2023 on our channels and here they are – ready for you to check them out below. Now that’s what we call a content efficiency!
